Ah, the Trek 100. Perhaps the only charity ride most racers will ever do in their lives, but a great event nonetheless. Thousands of cyclists with significantly different ability levels, from top Midwest racers to once-a-year riders, all sharing the back roads of Wisconsin in an orchestrated effort to raise money for the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer Fund. This year was the 20th annual Trek 100 Ride for Hope, which took place on June 6th in Waterloo, WI at the Trek Headquarters. Each rider is responsible for raising money based on the distance they plan to ride. Distances range from 19 miles to a full century.
Cat 3 Race The weather held and the sun came to watch the race. Always nice to have the sun as a spectator. Team Wheaton’s Elite Cat 3 guys put in a lot of hard work on the day, chasing breaks and creating their own. As a team of five and the second largest team of the day, David Paquette, Nick Frye, Garrett McAllister, Jon Cook, and Jon Heile all spent time on the front bring back a solo xXx racer who attacked on the 2nd of ten laps.
Based in southeastern Wisconsin, Team Wisconsin is proud to represent Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare All Saints as it’s primary sponsor. As the second largest private employer in Wisconsin, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare offers a comprehensive network of acute-care hospitals, outpatient centers and clinics. In addition, they offer home health/hospice and many other programs to enhance total health and wellness. Please see their link for more information: http://www.mywheaton.org/about/index.asp
Sunny and warm. Wind from the south. Headwind. All systems go. Wheaton all lined up on the front taking in some last minute water and advice, watches the Pro 1/2 field fly by. It feels good to be part of the energy buzzing about for the start of this four-day race weekend. The team is excited to put in some quality race training together and see where our fitness levels are. Race plan: Attack for the first half, then, sit in for the sprint if nothing sticks. Outcome: Attacks went well, nothing took but we did our work. The final sprint was hectic to put in lightly. Looked like a cartoon swarm of bees about the envelope their honey thief. Our man Nick Frye rocked the swarm with a solid top 10.

Great day of racing for Team Wheaton Cycling.
The Cat 3 team started the windy LaRue-Denzer-LaRue road race in good form with Jon Cook, Addison Faul, Mike Martinsen, Garrett McAllister and David Paquette. The challenging two and a half lap course provided the most elevation gains and strongest winds the team will possibly see this season. Using the course to their advantage the team put Martinsen, McAllister, and Paquette on the front during the first half lap to force some separation in the field. A patch of bad luck put Faul's day to and end on the first lap as he was escorted into the ditch by some fellow racers. Approaching the first hill set of the first full lap the Triple X team sent a rider of the front. The team reacted with McAllister and then with Paquette who was able to bridge. The break didn't hold for long but was enough to cause further breakdown of the field.
Coming into the Freedom hill climb the team was able to successfully block for Cook as he drifted away from the field with three other riders. On the climb Cook and Triple X were able to shed the the weaker of the group creating a break of two. Paquette made an attempt to bridge but shut it down after he was unable to shed two other Triple X riders from his wheel. Wanting the break to stick, Wheaton and Triple X worked together to block and bridging attempts from other riders. In the break, Cook lost contact after a strong attack from Triple X but was able to catch back on. With half a lap to go Triple X put their men on attacked but Wheaton was able to chase down each attempt. Paquette was able to separate from the field on Freedom Hill as Cook was powering away from Triple X on the fast finishing strait for the WIN!. Martinsen and McAllister followed suit with strong finishes.
